Mitraland Donates RM30,000 During Annual Charity Run Event
Fresh from last year’s successful charity run, Mitraland was encouraged to continue with this tradition and organize yet another run for 2014. With the company moving into Cascades, Kota Damansara, it seemed fitting to involve a school based within the same community. With that, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Damansara (SJKC Damansara) was cherry picked to be the recipient.
Founded in 1930, SKJC Damansara is a learning institution steeped in tradition that houses 2,500 co-ed primary students. The donation drive was a welcome respite as funds were needed to improve the school’s facilities and upgrade the IT equipment. According to Mr Hor, principal of the school, “We are so grateful for Mitraland to have offered to organize such a meaningful event to benefit the school and the students.”
Much like the previous year, participants paid a registration fee (RM15 or RM30) according to the two age-group categories. All of the proceeds went towards the school. The final tally showed a collection of RM14,655. However, with Mitraland having pledged to donate double the final amount, RM30,000 was donated to SKJC Damansara.
The run took place on 16th November. 600 eager participants arrived bright and early at the main entrance of Cascades. Warmup exercises, spearheaded by Fitness First instructors, included a jog around the Cascades development which encompasses retail shop offices, residences and the Menara Mitraland office tower.
The flag-off for the charity run was at 8am.Mr Chuah Theong Yee, Group CEO of Mitraland, was among the 600 eager participants. The runners excitedly thronged the starting line, all of them eager to support this wonderful cause. Safety was a top priority, as local police; RELA members and St John’s ambulances were on stand-by. There were also safety markers along the running route and sufficient drink stations to hydrate the runners.
All runners were presented with medals and a certificate of participation prior to the presentation of cheques.
Mr Jackson Kang, Vice President of the Parent-Teacher Association said, “We would like to thank Mitraland and Mr Chuah for organizing such a successful event and donating RM30,000 to our school. This will help us tremendously in creating a more holistic environment for our students.”
The event was co-sponsored by Affin Bank Berhad and 100PLUS.

Mitraland Activities – Deepavali Charity Event With Trinity Children Centre (TCC)
Deepavali was celebrated in the month of November and what better way to celebrate than to spend it with the less privileged?
On 9th November, Mitraland took the children and their dedicated care-takers out for a little cinema treat. TCC is a sanctuary for orphaned, abandoned, battered, abused and neglected children and is located in a rented semi-detached house at Section 4, Petaling Jaya. Currently the 21 children at TCC are from the ages 5 – 19 and are looked after by 5 care-takers.
Mitraland arranged for transportation which brought the children to the Golden Screen Cinema at One Utama. They were treated to the Hollywood blockbuster – THOR and were also pampered with a full movie experience, from buckets of popcorn to getting the best seats in the theatre!
After the movie, lunch was in the cards and the entire group was ushered to Nandos, the famous flame grilled chicken peri-peri restaurant.
Wendy Hew, Manager of TCC said, “We can’t thank Mitraland enough for spending time with the kids. They were all looking forward for this and were so excited. Thank you for showing us you care. Little kind gestures mean the world to these kids.”
